1 night @ ......Another book from the FPS author
While browsing the channel at home I had a glimpse of this chap on a news channel. But as I am least interested in news just thought that the author must have released a new book. And I'll come to know somehow if its good.
It's incredible!!!!! How can this happen? After returning back to Pune to go for Bangalore I was strolling on the Deccan road as usual waiting for my frend and also looking at the beauties around;). I was in front of MCDonalds where I saw a book seller by the roadside. I was having a look at the collection of the books he had when suddenly a boy came in between and pointing to a blue colored book asked how much it cost for? What I noticed was the name Chetan Bhagat. Yes!!! It's the book, the new one. Another book by the FPS author. So just got hold of it and started reading the reviews given at the back. But there were no reviews this time. It has the story in short. I found it interesting (not really, I was worried what he must have written as the story was about a call from god) and thought of going to crossword (so that I can read some few pages and the index) to buy it. I found the index somewhat similar to FPS - Longest day.. - Part I, Part II... Here it was My Date with Priyanka - I, II, III and so on....
Finally I bought it. I was very eager to read the book but had to wait until I board the bus. The time came and started reading the book. I completed few pages and the driver switched off the light. 'Oh no!!! I wanna read it.' But can't help as it was night journey. So again I had to postpone reading till morning.
To pass the time in the bus we(Nilesh, Pankaj and myself) had many smal small talks on various topics. What happened in Diwali? What are the further plans? And any thoughts of switching again, etc...?
I started reading the book again next morning after having my breakfast. It started getting the grip. By the time I reached Bangalore I have completed more than 3/4th of the book with all sort of disturbances.
I again was restless to read the remaining stuff. I could not read the book same night as I was very tired of the journey. But I made it a point to read it the next night. And the night came.
I think this author is a firm beliver of love and friendship. This book also depicts these two relationships more intrinsically. Moreover he is simply great in describing a lady, be it westernised Indian like Esha, or be typical married Indian woman Radhika, or a mix of both Priyanka. The conversations in the book sound so real and lively. He is totally informal in writing. He has used words that are very common amongst college guys. And that brings the book more close, to me atleast. I started the reading the book again. The time was ticking but I just could not leave the book. All the characters are so real. I thought of completing it that night only. It was 3 O'clock in the morning and I wanted to sleep. Generally this happens when it's cold. But I thought 'only last 7 chapters constituting maximum of 50 pages are remaining, then why not complete it?'.
Till now the whole book had everything except the entry of God. The book was about to end but no god, no main story yet. I thought the prologue must be a marketing style. But no it repeated in this chapter and here our hero made an entry at last. One thing that I want to point out is what problem this chap has to make a good end? Though he has mentioned why he has chosen God at the last, but I could not digest it. So I took the other way as mentioned by him. There is this character in the story who has no role at all. An old military retired gentleman. He seldom has any role. I got it why he didn't after reading the last chapter. He gave him some role for those who do not belive in these miracles. Atleast for me.
Overall the story is all that catchy, keeps you excited, and you just cant throw the book away until you've finished it. Forget the end......Good description of frustration, depression, jealousy, happiness and all forms of human behaviour. A good book to read...
