Alter Ego

Everyone needs an alter ego, a friend, someone to talk to and share your feelings with. So is this, to some extent.

I wonder...

Few days back, sitting alone in my room reading Sidney Shelden's "Sky is Falling" I wondered how did I developed this habit of reading. Yes I am saying 'habit'. Someone might disagree to this.

The thought took me back to my post college days when I was in hunt of a job. In the resume I have written reading books as my hobby which I seldomly did. At that time I wondered how can books give you the feel of something happening real. I have heard people saying that the characters sound so real, the book is a good example of spy story. I just didn't understand how that climax can be felt by merely reading a book. Hence I always felt that I should also read books and check whether it's real. But wondered when will this happen. I thought of developing this as an hobby.

The journey began few months after getting job and some hold on the project. Since then I have bought quite a few books. Mein Kamf(which I never started), Tuesdays with morrie, Midnight children(this also read first 5-6 pages), Annie Frank..(read half of the book), Tough time never lasts but tough ppl do, FPS, 1 night @ call center, Good bye Mr. Chips. The real interest in reading developed when one of my frends suggested me "Tuesdays with Morrie". This being a small book and interesting, I could complete it in a short span. And then the 'Silsila' started.

Whenever I bought a new book Samyak, my then roomie always use to laugh and say aur ek book Datar. Pehle ke to khatam kar. But his every time comments always inspired me to buy a new one with a new zeal of completing it that generally use to die before I could do that. Also more than reading I now liked buying books. Anyhow the journey began.

I always admire people who have some different hobbies other than being only academic. This also forced me to do something different. I thought since I have already started, reading is a easy way to accomplish someting I admire. To list a few whom I admire cos of such qualities are...Sam and Sidh for they know guitar, Sarita for her painting, Sunilraje for he being a person always interested in trekking, Nachiket for his love to animals(fan of Geographic channel), Kumar and Soumie(a recent frend of mine and also one of the reason for this article) for they write poems, Aswani for his singing, Maggie for she sings, dances, plays guitar(and what not) and many many more.

This article is the outcome of my previous days thinking and the chat with Soumie where I asked her I wonder how someone can write a poem. I also wondered how can people write long long articles, books etc...I think I should stop wondering now as I too have started. While writing this I remember one thing, one question that was asked to me in mindtree's interview "Shuchivrat, Do you write?". To which I answered "No!!". I don't know as to why she felt asking me this question? I think I got the answer to some extent.

I really wondered how people get addicted to internet...

I really wondered how people get addicted to orkut...

I really wondered how people get addicted to writing blogs...

And that too in office timings...

I really wonder...

But now is the time to stop wondering as I also am doing what I used to wonder and may be some point down the line I'll also start writing poems.....Who knows??
